Mark Alan is an American photographer now residing in southern Spain. Having studied his craft in Pasadena California, Mark immediately found his voice with a love for photographing people. Initially his explorations were editorial, portrait, street and fashion based, but it didn’t take long for him to discover his true passion, capturing the beauty of male form. Over the years he’s explored many avenues of photographing men from portraiture, editorial series, to moments of sensual intimacy. Never one to make glossy Adonis-like icons of his muses, he prefers to keep a more relaxed and natural way of presenting who they are as people, often with a subtle editorial style.
Not only a photographer, Mark has communicated his creativity through many mediums including music, video, painting and writing. He’s composed music that has been licensed in numerous television shows in the US and UK. Eventually Mark’s goal is to create an immersive exhibition to bring both his visual and audio worlds together.
In 2023 Mark self-published his first book titled “Wolf Pack” which focuses on his early years behind the lens. He’s also begun a series of limited edition ‘zines, “Happy Trail” and “Pulp”. Mark’s works have been published internationally including: Yummy, Universo Masculino, DNA Magazine, NeoMen, Physique Pictorial, Blue and Photo & Video Numérique, plus displayed in group shows in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin and most recently in Madrid.
Mark’s current series “Weightless” is part of his explorations focused on male dancers. These images include a small amount of digital manipulation to distort the orientation of the scene and transform the photo studio floor into unique geometric shapes. The result leaves the subjects balanced precariously in a weightless state.
